Preach the Gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.
— attributed to St. Francis of Assisi
While I share my program of recovery with others through my work, here is where I share it using words.
It’s a space to think more deeply about recovery—how it changes us, how language shapes it, and how each of us makes it our own. Over the years I’ve learned that recovery isn’t static; it grows with the person. The old language can still point the way, but it doesn’t always describe where we’ve arrived. Here, I try to bridge that gap. I write about what still helps, what needs rethinking, and what keeps this way of life alive and human.
Whether you’re in A.A., another path of recovery, or just “Sober Curious” as I call it—you’re welcome here. Just come as you are, read, and see what connects. Maybe find words for something you’ve always known.
Best,
P.S. Feel free to send me an email. john@johnb.is
I don’t always reply immediately, but I will reply.
